Dr Dafydd Roberts

Former Keeper, National Slate Museum

I’ve been working as Keeper of the National Slate Museum since 1981 and in 1982 gained a Ph.D. from Aberystwyth University on ‘The Slate Quarrying Communities of Caernarfonshire and Merioneth, 1911 – 1939’. My Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather were Quarrymen so there is a strong link there and I've always had an intrinsic interest in the slate industry and its people. For me the quarrying communities have produced the best and warmest people and it’s a joy to work amongst the industry from day to day.
